Fairfax response to article in today's Australian Financial Review

SYDNEY, 18 January, 2000 – In response to an article regarding the Company in The Australian Financial Review today, the Company made the following statement:

"John Fairfax Holdings Limited [ASX:FXJ] has had, and continues to have, discussions with a number of parties, including Telstra.

None of these discussions has reached a stage where there is anything to disclose at this time."
