M E D I A R E L E A S E Fairfax ONLINE cements leadership IN INTERNET MARKET WITH NEW MOTORING SUPERSITE New Motoring Web site Provides Information Resource, Links Car Buyers with Dealers - Sydney, 1 March 1999 Fairfax Online has consolidated its position as Australias leading online publisher with the launch of drive.com.au (www.drive.com.au), the countrys first motoring Internet supersite. Designed to link car buyers with commercial traders and private vendors, drive.com.au combines vehicle classifieds with a comprehensive resource of motoring information - including an extensive database of authoritative articles, reviews, specifications and valuations - to take the hard work and uncertainty out of buying a car. Drive.com.au is the latest in a series of online initiatives from Fairfax Online, which is planning to roll out a series of supersites over the next 12 months, each featuring a blend of quality content and classifieds focused on a particular area of interest, further cementing its position at the forefront of online media in Australia. Fairfax General Manager, Business Development and Online Services, Nigel Dews said drive.com.au is Fairfax Onlines first supersite, which combines quality content with classified advertisements in an easy-to-use, highly interactive web site. "Drive.com.au offers car buyers the one-stop Internet site for objective and well-researched news, reviews and features on cars, their specifications and performance, along with finance and leasing rates," he said. "Fairfax Online is already the leader in vehicle classifieds and has a proven track record in developing leading-edge web sites. With this initiative, we are taking our relationship with car dealers and manufacturers to the next stage by linking them directly with qualified buyers, something that has not been done before," said Mr Dews. Fairfax Online has had an enthusiastic response to the initiative from car dealers and the automotive industry, which now has an online tool capable of showcasing entire inventories as well as providing email leads from interested buyers through its automated response system. "We are very excited to be a part of this motor vehicle initiative on the web," said Jason Varone, Deputy Managing Director of the Rick Damelian Group. "Rick Damelian has the largest range of quality used Honda vehicles. Access to drive.com.au offers the opportunity to bring this marvellous range to the maximum number of potential buyers." In addition to the objective editorial material from The Sydney Morning Herald, The Sun Herald and The Age, drive.com.au is expected to attract thousands of visitors for the complete listing of classified car advertisements from its national stable of newspapers, as well as access to leading consumer information such as Glass Guide to Used Car Prices. Drive.com.au will be officially launched to car manufacturers and dealers at trade events in Melbourne on 1 March, and Sydney on 2 March 1999. -ends- Further Information: Jane Trevor/Louise Partridge or Nigel Dews Note: Drive.com.au is the latest addition to the Fairfax Online family of sites, which aim to lead their categories of interest by providing independent, relevant and useful news and information resources to Australian Internet users.
