Statement by John Fairfax Holdings SYDNEY, 11 May, 2000 – Mr. Fred Hilmer, Chief Executive Officer of John Fairfax Holdings Limited, today issued the following statement: "After full consideration by the Board, Fairfax has determined not to proceed with a proposal to publish a free afternoon commuter newspaper in Sydney and Melbourne. Our assessment of the likely competitive reaction was that the upside from entering this new niche market was insufficient to justify the risks at this time. This decision was made in the context of our review of a number of opportunities for growth. These opportunities, both in print and online, are being pursued aggressively." |
