Statement by John Fairfax Holdings Limited

SYDNEY, November 23, 2000 - John Fairfax Holdings Limited [ASX:FXJ] said this morning that illegal industrial action by the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union has prevented publication of today's edition of The Age, and curtailed publication in Melbourne of The Australian Financial Review.

The Company has obtained an interim court injunction prohibiting further interference with publication and distribution. The Company said it very much regrets the inconvenience to readers, advertisers and customers.
