Fairfax signs new 10-year newsprint agreement with Norske Skog

SYDNEY, September 20, 2000 – John Fairfax Holdings Limited [ASX:FXJ] said today it had signed a binding letter of intent on a new 10-year contract with Norske Skog on the supply of newsprint for its publications.

Mr Peter Graham, Director, Group Operations, for Fairfax said:

"While the terms of the agreement are confidential, we can say that newsprint prices for Fairfax will remain stable in the near term, with much greater price certainty in future years. This agreement affords us protection on the two major variables affecting newsprint prices: variations in spot price and foreign exchange. We view this agreement positively with regard to both those variables.

"We look forward to further developing what is emerging as a constructive relationship with Norske Skog."

The agreement is for a 10-year period beginning July 1, 2000 and replaces previous newsprint supply agreements.
