Fairfax continues international growth with first ever China launch
Sydney, September 24, 2002: MIS magazine continues to expand with a new quarterly China edition joining the stable in December. Managing Information Strategies (MIS) is an Australian publishing success which, since launch in 1992, has grown to include editions in New Zealand, Asia, the UK and now China.
MIS China and MIS China special editions, entirely in simplified Chinese, will allow clients to directly target IT decision-makers in the top 3,000 organisations in the country.
Mr Michael Gill, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Fairfax Business Media (FBM), said, “China is potentially a very important market for our expansion in business publications outside of Australia, and we are very pleased to launch MIS China, which is our first publication in the PRC. We hope that MIS China will be an important resource to IT executives and managers in the growth of China’s IT industries and technology utlilisation in the business sector.”
The launch of MIS China follows the success earlier this year of MIS Greater China 50, FBM’s first-ever bilingual product, in English and Chinese, which was circulated to 10,000 readers. A partly translated version of MIS Asia has since been distributed and more than 100 of China’s most important IT chiefs have been surveyed to help determine the editorial model.
“The top 3,000 companies and organisations are responsible for the vast majority of IT purchases in China,” says Mr Peter Roberts, managing editor of FBM Asia. “We are delighted to be able to offer clients the most cost-effective way of accessing this fast-growing market in a high-quality editorial environment.”
“We are finding that IT chiefs in China are most interested in peer wisdom on IT management subjects, ranging from technology selection to project management and issues such as Enterprise Resource Planning and Supply Chain Management,” says Ms Diana Saw, editor of MIS Asia. “Our Chinese readers are making or planning investment decisions right now and seeking information unbiased by commercial considerations.”
FBM will produce MIS China at its Singapore and Hong Kong editorial offices utilising FBM resources in China. Circulation initially will be direct to 9,000 IT decision-makers researched by the company’s specialist division, Fairfax Business Research. The quarterly publishing program offers:
- MIS China in December 2002 and September 2003, featuring articles written by FBM staff inside China as well as case studies and “how-to” articles from across Asia.
- The MIS Greater China 50—a listing and evaluation of the IT strategies of China’s 50 largest users—will be released in April 2003.
- June 2003 will see the publication of the inaugural edition of MIS Strategic 100, which lists China’s top 100 IT vendors, both indigenous and foreign.
“This combination of traditional MIS editorial—proven in editions in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the United Kingdom—together with definitive listings of IT users and vendors, provides the perfect editorial environment for advertisers,” says Mr Roberts.
